Lexical Bundles and Disciplinary Variation in Master Theses: The Case of Native versus Nonnative Iranian L2 Corpora

چکیده

Lexical bundles, as fixed-form recurrent word combinations of multiple words, constitute a significant portion academic writing and play pivotal role in producing fluent texts. Extant studies on lexical bundles have documented difficulties that second language learners, particularly writers experience these their writing. However, despite an extensive existing body research the use various fields, such linguistic devices across disciplines, Iranian context is under-researched area. Thus, this study examined frequency, functions structure 4-word bundle master theses native English-speaking (L2) four different disciplines. For purpose, two corpora, each containing 60 theses, 120 total, were selected analyzed following corpus-based approach. The findings revealed that, overall, incorporated more texts than English counterparts varied functionally structurally not only nonnative corpora but also has important implications for L2 respective disciplines well genre-based instruction both specific
 purposes.
